Compress video for Discord

Fit a clip under Discord’s upload limit without guessing bitrates. The page picks resolution and quality for the size you choose.

Preset

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in this tab — nothing is uploaded.

    How it works

    1. The page divides the size budget by the video’s length to get a bitrate, reserves a little for sound, and picks the largest resolution that still looks clean at that bitrate.
    2. The page uses WebCodecs — the video encoder built into your browser and usually backed by your device’s hardware — instead of a 25 MB ffmpeg download.
    3. The file is read from disk in pieces by Mediabunny inside a Web Worker, re-encoded to H.264 and packed into an MP4 that plays on iPhone, Android, Windows and in browsers.
    4. If the encoder overshoots, it runs one more, tighter pass so the file lands under the limit.

    Good to know

    • Long videos don’t fit 20 MB at a watchable quality: roughly 3–4 minutes is the practical maximum. Trim first.
    • Frame rate is capped at 30 fps to spend the budget on sharpness.
    • Keep the tab open and the screen on. iOS pauses background tabs, so compression stops if you switch apps.
    • On iPhone, files above roughly 600 MB can make Safari run out of memory. Use a computer for long 4K clips — or the app, which works with the whole library.
    • HEVC (H.265) — the iPhone default — decodes in Safari and in Chrome or Edge on most Macs and Windows PCs, but not in Firefox.
    • One video at a time.

    Questions

    Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and converted by your browser in this tab. You can check it yourself: open the developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run a conversion — no request carries your file.
    What is Discord’s upload limit?
Since August 2026, free accounts can upload files up to 20 MB; Nitro plans allow more. On mobile, Discord checks the size before its own compression, which is why iPhone videos hit the limit so often.
Why is my video lower resolution now?
A fixed size means a fixed number of bits per second. For a longer clip, 720p or 540p at a decent bitrate looks better than blurry 1080p.
Can I do this on my iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Pick the video from Photos or Files and keep the tab open while it works.
The video is already under 20 MB — what happens?
Nothing is re-encoded. The page tells you it already fits so you can send it as is.
