Photos eating your iPhone storage?
Get it on the App StoreClear Cleaner finds duplicate and similar shots across your whole library and suggests the best one to keep — you confirm what goes.
How it works
- The page tries several quality levels and keeps the highest one that lands under 500 KB. If even low quality is too big, it reduces the dimensions step by step and tries again.
- JPG is encoded by the browser itself. For WebP, Safari can’t encode from a canvas, so the page loads a small WebAssembly encoder the first time you need it.
- Location and camera metadata (EXIF) are dropped — handy when you send photos to strangers.
Good to know
- Limits are counted in decimal units (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes), so the result also fits forms that count 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes.
- Most phone photos fit without visible loss; very detailed shots may be scaled down a little.
- JPG has no transparency: transparent areas of a PNG turn white. Pick WebP to keep them.
- On iPhone, photos above about 16 megapixels are scaled down to fit Safari’s canvas limit.
Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and converted by your browser in this tab. You can check it yourself: open the developer tools, switch to the Network tab and run a conversion — no request carries your file.
Is 500 KB measured the same way as the form I’m using?
Some sites count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, others as 1,024. The page aims for the stricter one, so the file fits either way.
Why did my photo get smaller dimensions?
When even low JPG quality can’t get under 500 KB, reducing resolution is the only way left — and it looks better than heavy compression artefacts.
Does it work with HEIC from an iPhone?
Yes. HEIC is decoded in the browser first (natively in Safari), then compressed to JPG or WebP.
